My first 15mm game.

My first 15mm game. Rules: Skank

Sadly my camera was out of battery. All I managed was a couple of table shots with my phone.

The game was the Alliance where holding vital supplies from the locals on a moon known as Groggs world.

A group of locals decided to storm the store (lead by a hero, they where all rabble).

The locals left a couple of guys on foot and two guys on the hill to keep the guards busy while three vehicles sped up to the supply dump to secure it.

The guys on the hill proved very effective taking out quite a few guards at range. The buggy took a hit from running over a trooper and was crippled rolling to a stop along side the mine.

Another car got shop up and lost its brakes. That crashed killing both the occupants.

The pick up truck soaked up damage (level 3) and its occupants (one of them a Merc) got to the objective. The Merc kept out and took two assault rifle bursts to the chest. A guy with a bat was driving. He left out and beat a trooper to death before getting shot.

The hero leapt out of the burning buggy and killed a trooper in hand to hand before taking out a second one the same way. He move on the remaining troops but missed a shot with his pistol.

The snipers had moved forwards and dealt the death blow by taking out the two remaining troopers and their officer.

Wasteland Trader - Trader Tommy.

Not much has been finished this week with my poor cat Cooper passing away. So for your entertainment here is another from the vaults.....

The successes of Freedomville in beating wasteland trash to a pulp regularly has attracted a trader. Trader Tommy will be operating from the wasteland town(dump). He is a little gitterish about security so has hired some goons to act as security.

Tommy is in the centre (the Ramshackle El Honcho figure). The goons are EM4 prepainted Mercenaries and one of the prepainted ganger. Cheating I know but for a while it was the only option as time was limited.

Here is a mugshot of Trader Tommy:

Let the last lot of rabble try and have a go at the good town of Freedomville again.

Frozen Wastelands pt 5

Here are the latest bits of terrain for my Frozen Wastelands (I told you I had been busy! lol).

Those Scavengers are in for a nasty shock!!!

This is just a lump of Floral foam I had laying about on a CD (dont throw anything out!). The ice is water effects resin.

I also made a Post Box as I plan a modern Frozen Britain setting. The factions for this will be used for the Frozen wastes. I picked the post box as it was spare. My 80's British Post Apoc isn't going to have more than one post box on a board as these things are scattered every few blocks.

A closer shot of the ice.

I should make some dedicated boards for this setting. Do I go all Arctic (all white) or mix it up with brown patches Tundra style??

More Warriors from the Frozen Wastes.

Daring Eagles Mercenaries

When the world ended and froze a small bunker of military was trapped high in the mountains. They where kitted up for sub zero conditions. After a year or so they raided local populations of survivors for women. Now their Sons and Grandsons carry on their traditions. These trained warriors operate as Mercenaries in the Frozen Wastes.

The minis are old Warzone Alpine troops (Thanks Xander). I puttied over the cast eagles on the Shoulder pads as it was easier than filing them off! This was my attempt at a Alpine style camouflage pattern.

When supplies get low survivors go to seek salvage to keep their crew arrive. Often these Scavengers can be seen wandering the frozen wastes looking for food or other supplies.

The minis are Kallistra Sci-Fi. The guy in the middle had a miscast face. So I filled it back then resculpted a mask and face scarf. The hood had to be rebuilt with putty too.

Post Apoc Santa and his little helpers!!

Winter hit and inspired me to kick this into life again. As I have loads of Wastelands terrain this year I will be focusing a little more on the Frozen Wastes.

Rustbucket's miniatures have a bulk to them that suggests lots of layers and with a Santa in there where else could they be but the frozen wastes?? (Rustbucket is a friend to sculpts minis and casts minis for a hobby over on the Post Apocalyptic Wargames Forum).

You better cry because Post Apoc Santa is coming to town!! Oh kids, Santa really does hate you!!!

Bad Santa is here for you! You will be dragged from your bed and maimed!!

Santa has his little helpers to make sure he gets the job done (sometimes he is too drunk)!!

When they leave town, its burning!!

Quake in the dark of winter and hope he doesn't come to your wasteland hovel!!

The Skull Bandits - Aero Pirates

Aero Pirates curse of the skies!!

Time for a little more VSF/Steampunk.

Its Kaptain Skullduggery and his crew, know in the Aeronef circles as "The Skull Bandits". Flyers beware!!

They may also be used for my Sci-Fi Firefly-esq setting as a rival ships crew.

The mins are from Anvil Industries. The guy third from right has a different arm. I lost it. In typical fashion the arm turned up after I had finished painting the minis. DOH!

These minis are resin and have real crisp detail work on them making them a joy to paint. Hats off to the bods at Anvil Industries. They are true 28mm in scale and should work well with Hasslefree and other 28mm true figures.

I guess I will have to make a zeppelin or Aeronef for the Skull Bandits now!! lol

I have been painting minis - honest!!!

I have been busy with a few Frozen Wastes and Steampunk/VSF figures over the last couple of weeks. They are done but my figures are trapped behind a evil demonic cat. All out warfare broke out among my cats recently and one of them seems to be possessed. She has set up camp outside the hobby room and I cant get in. I would move her but I don't want to stress her out more besides which my chain mail suit is at the cleaners.

This has hampered me getting pictures of the said minis and grabbing my flock for a couple of Frozen Wastes bits of terrain I am working on. There is a gang and a set of mercenaries for the Frozen Wastes and a group of Aero/ether Pirates for Steampunk/VSF. The mini total is currently 13 painted this year.

There is a new British Post Apocalypse I am working on too. The figures will be more modern and it will see levels of freezing similar to the film "The Day After Tomorrow". These minis will be able to be used for my Frozen Wastes factions too.

Bolt Action Ruined Hamlet - review

Well thats the Xmas madness over. The decorations are down, the house is back to normal (kind of) and I can look forward to steaming ahead in my hobby.

One of my Xmas Goodies was a Bolt Action ruined hamlet by Warlord. I found them nice and fairly versatile models. They come in separate walls and corner pieces. The kits include details such as floors, chimneys, rubble piles and roof beams.

There is enough to build 3 double storey ruins and 3 single storey ruins. Or if you are like me you can mix them up. They are a nice set. I will be using them for my 80's British Post Apocalyptic setting . I have seen similar style rural buildings around North Wales, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Scotland. There is even one in Urban Liverpool

Given the historic style of the ruins they may even see use in my Victorian Sci Fi (VSF) games.

Happy New Year 2013

Happy New Year!!

2012 has been a busy year hobby wise here on MBG world. Early in the year I dipped my toe into VSF (Victorian Science Fiction/Steampunk) as a break from my usual Post Apocalyptic madness and made up forces for the British, Prussians and Martians. I hope to add more in 2013.

I also made up a entire Martian table for VSF games on Mars.  The terrain mat took me about three weeks!! There was a few Sci-Fi buildings, lots of post apocalyptic terrain and a Sci-Fi jungle which I hope to use for a British Post Apocalyptic game set in the 1980’s and for VSF on Venus. Then there was my Post Apocalyptic Fortress built for the 2012 challenge for the Post Apocalyptic Wargames forum.  (There will be a new challenge for 2013!!!).

Miniatures wise I have cobbled together several Post Apoc gangs, VSF factions and even managed a Sci-Fi Star ship crew too. I also managed some 15mm minis too.

It wasn't all good though. I lost a lot of my background notes to MBW when my Mac died (they lied when they told me that they don't crash or wipe their hard drives for no reason! Grrr. I should have them all impailed or thrown into the mutant pit!). On the plus side this gives me a clean sheet to start to restructure MBW. Imagination in warmup mode!!!

So what’s the plan for 2013??

Well more of the same. Lots of terrain ideas knocking about and some new toys. Looking at my toy pile I have decided to head down the Frugal route for minis and gaming this year. Besides their is nothing quite as satisfying as converting or building stuff from scratch.

One big thing I want to do is to get more games in. I hardly played last year. A few games of NY3K and that was it. I also want to see how 15mm plays before I make any further decisions to head down that road.

Speaking of NY3K, I am writing some add on rules for the game which I hope will be available next year (I also lost those in the crash too so its rewrite time...again).

I am fighting the desire to try some 20mm stuff. I blame that Xander guy over on his blog!!! :-P

I plan on adding some gangs for the Frozen Wastes using minis by Rustbucket (a review will follow) and a great Xmas haul (thank you Mrs Mattblackgod!! xxxx) has enough minis for a new Liberty City/Wastelands and to start the conversions for my ‘80s Brit post apoc setting. Some VSF and other Post Apoc will be getting done too. There are some 15mm figures in the to paint pile too.

So there is nothing more to say than Happy New Year!!!

I wish you all a joyful and prosperous 2013.

Cheers

Danny

Engineers of the Wastelands!

More from the vaults....

The post apoc world is kept clattering along by the efforts of engineers, mechs and other tinkerers. Every settlement has at least one. In some places there are groups of engineers and other specialists who make their living trying to rebuild the world and make life a little easier for everyone. It doesn't always work like that though.....

In a hidden valley the Wasteland Engineering and Construction Company have a set of factories that was once an old industrial estate. Old Isenbard Brunell leads them and hopes to rebuild the glories of  the old world.

The mini is from Ramshackle. I chose the hand with a walking cane/shotgun/handcannon. Sadly the weapon snapped in tow - so it had to be a sawn off. The figure is nice to paint and I enjoyed painting it. This is my first attempt to paint up metallics in grey tones - not too sure it worked.

These guys are big on close combat as they are more concerned with building and fixing stuff. They are known to hire bikers as mercs. This is because they are usually good in a fight and pretty handy with the old spanners.

A scavenger patrol from the Wasteland Engineering and Construction Company (WECC) discovered a pile of wrecks a bit further up the valley from the WECC's factories and foundries. The wrecks seemed to be the remains of a military convoy that had been ambushed during the end war.  Brunel soon stripped them and got one working vehicle out of them.

They call it the Grinder. It is used as a bulldozer and mobile workshop. The vehicle packs enough firepower and presence to keep most raiders away from WECC construction sites.

Now there are also some wandering engineers on Mattblacks world. The Stunty Engineers clan.

These guys wander from place to place trading thier skills for food, fuel and materials. The minis are GW RT 40K Squat Engineers Guild. I love these minis and they are some of my favorites.
