Starport Scum #14

Welcome Back,

Here is yet another episode of Starport Scum...

This Dvarg is a straddler from the Big Red Mining Company (or in this case a new addition). He is on his way to join his comrades on the world of Tapu/Gutterlands in the Bill Making Stuff universe, after missing is Starport connection by being distracted by a heavy metal holo feed (which is known 'Folk Music' in the far future of the Wild Galaxy!)

The figure is a old 40K metal Squat missing it's plastic arms. Like other Squats of this era in my collection, the arm Wargames Atlantic Einhenjar fix the problem. They fit nicely and solves a problem with finds on ebay.

Vermen are a constant problem across many of humanites worlds and colonies. It is still a mystery, just how they get there or where they come from. They are suspected to be a kind of GELF (Genetically Engineered Life Form) but there is no record of their creation or participation in the GELF wars. There are some theories that they are some sort of mutant or alien.

This Verman is a Mantic Vyrmin figure.

This filthy animal is Marco Lawless and is a low level roid addicted thug. He is a handy hire if you need muscle but dont make the mistake of trusting him. He will double cross if he will benefit.

The figure is a old plastic 97 Necromunda Goliath found in an old box of figures. He was missing an arm, which was fixed by using a old Gorkamorka metal arm with a big revolver. Goes to show how brawny these old Golaiths are when Ork arms look a bit weedy!

Marco Lawless faces off with a Verman Scout.

Here we see a Dvarg prospector finding a damaged droid. The droid is a Stargrave objective.

Dvarg Work Suits

Hello and Welcome Back,

After putting together the Big Red Mining Corporation (BRMC), I spotted the Forge Fathers Artifactor Juggernaut by Mantic Games. Such a mining rig would suit the Dvarg/Squats/Space Dwarves of BRMC perfectly. The resin model comes in several peices and has options to build different looking Mining rigs. You could even choose a layout for a pure combat based model.

As I wanted a rig suitable to smashing wreckage and mining work I chose a power hammer and mining drill. The spare bits went into the cavernous bits box for future conversion work.

In my pile of figures is a bunch of old 40K Rouge Trader era Squats. As they seem to have a theme I am planning a future Squat force, the Blue Star Company. It wont come as a surprise that they will have a blue paint scheme. As I was already looking at the Forge Father Artifactor Juggernaut models from Mantic Games, I got a Iron Ancestor as a Dreadnought style mech as support for the Blue Star Squats.

Like the other model, it is a multipart resin model giving a couple of armament options. The spares have gone in the bitsbox.

One nice thing about the Iron Ancestor model is that they are largely enough to be crewed by a human figure. I can see these models offering combat support for many forces.

As the Dvarg are also traders in my setting, it is possible that they would trade these suits with human allies, for enough loot.

Thanks for looking,

Big Red Mining Company- Skrim faction

Hello and Welcome back,

The Big Red Mining Company is a faction in the Skirm rulebook by Bill Making Stuff. A summary of the faction background is that they are a space dwarf Mining company that orginated from the world Vermillion which orbits a Red Dwarf star. In addtion to their mining activities they are also good at recovering old technology from junk piles (The world of Gutterlands is one giant junk pile).

I do wonder if Bill is a fan of the Red Dwarf TV show?

In Skrim factions only need 6 figures a side, but I expanded the numbers up to 10 so these guys can be used in other games such as Stargrave.

These figures are Chobs Space Dwarves carried by Ramshackle games.

There are also some metal Squats from Macrocosmn. The guy with the mohawk has had a shotgun added.

This small guy is a old 40K Squat from way back.

These three are converted Warhammer Dwarves. I had fun doing these conversions. That triple barreled heavy weapon makes me think of the Tribarrel power guns fitted to the Combat Cars in Hammers Slammers.

The BRMC will also be used as a Dvargs faction in my Wild Galaxy setting. Company scouting teams have arrived on Maddans World to check out the mining opportunities. Wreckage station has also had a team arrive. In addition to the giant ball of ancient technology that is the station, the dead world below offers untold salvage opportunities. Or it will as soon as they atmosphere is balanced.

Back at company HQ on Vermilion the company is comparing their old space charts against the modern Human ones to find dead or lost worlds. Will they find Mattblackgod’s World?

Looking at the pile of shame I have collected a few of old 40K squats. I think I will create another Dvark company using another colour as a rival faction. My tortured brain is also thinking about a way to include my old Squat Engineers Guild figures as a possible free lance squat squad to beef up either faction should I decide to use them in a bigger game, such as facing off against Orks.

Some Figure conversion WIPs

Hello and Welcome back.

A quick figure WIP of various figures that I am working on.

The first up are a bunch of Space Dwarves for the Big Red Mining Corporation for the Skirm game by Bill Making Stuff. They are based on old plastic Warhammer Dwarves.

This guy is sporting Mantic Games Forge Fathers arms and back pack. A visor/goggles has been added with greenstuff.

The Squat has a big arse gun that I am unsure of the origin (possbily Mantic). It kind of reminds me of the Tribarrel power guns fitted to the Combat Cars in the Hammers Slammers universe (I need to re read these novels one day).

His pickaxe arm is from a Heresy miniatures Dwarf Miner. Some hoses and eyepiece was added from green stuff. The eye peice is a tiny nail art gem, which also make excellent rivets.

This guy sports his hammer arm but has a plastic Void Viridian machine pistol added. Some green stuff shoulder pads were added along with a similar eye peice to the last mini.

The colour scheme for this faction will have red highlights or details to tie them together. This should also make them look like members of the Big Ded Mining Corporation.

Then we come to some Ramshackle miniatures currently sat on the bench.

This Vulcan miniature on the right has had a head swap from a Void Plastic Junkers figure. He is planned to join the Skrapknights. The original Vulcan will be joining the opposing faction of the Rust Lords.

The Staveley figure on the left has a fantasy shield (with some Combat damage added with a scalpel) and a 40k Space Marine power sword arm. Out of sight around the back there is a Space Marine Scout shotgun holster. The converted Staveley will be joining the Skrap knights while the orginal will join the Rust Lords.

These two are Khordal Pattern Armour figures. I chose these as they are ripe for kitbashing and using up all those space Marine spare parts. Plus they make good Post Apocalyptic power armour.

The figure on the left has Space Marine and some Chaos Maurader parts from the bits box and a Anvil Skull helmet adding. I am thinking he will become Mattius Black, the leader of the Last City. The figure on the right also got Space Marine arms and pads. The head is a old Void Viridian helmet. I plan to add this figure to my Guardians faction (think Fallout Brotherhood of steel).

Hopefully soon they will be added to the paint queue...it's anyone's guess when these figures will be finished. Future kitbashes are also planned as I need to build a DEAP (mutated bio weapons that will become a kind of GELF for my setting) and Rusters (rusty tribals which may become a new MBW faction) factions for Skirm.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.
