Mercenaries by BMT3D

Hello and Welcome back,

I am on a roll with keeping on top of the Blog posts and productivity.

Mercenaries are a common sight across frontier space. They are hired usually as a short term solution to protect assets, VIPs or to perform certain tasks that their employers want to deny. Mercenaries have a reputation for ruthlessness and sometimes a lack of loyalty.

On worlds like Maddans world, they are often hired to deal with bandits. Some colonies and corporations also employ them to do their dirty work such as taking control of other (usually independent) mining settlements.

The Maddans Independent Mining Corporation is now wealthy enough from mining the Ultesium ore to be able to employ mercenaries to protect their mines from Corporate or foreign takeover.

With the exception of the Mech, these figures are a limited run by BMT3D and are inspired by some of the art work in the orginal 40K RT art work. They have that old school vibe that I like.

Mercenaries don't just arrive as infantry. Some free lance mercenaries bring big heavy Mech suits, which disappear from their orignal detachment usually during an intense battle. Such as the "Ursa". This walking tank soaks up damage and sports four rapid fire heavy machine guns. The Ursa's arsenal is powerful enough to take on lightly armoured opponents, swarms, hordes of GELFs and fast moving targets such as jetbikes, speeders and aircraft.

Ursa is a Bear mech from the Borderlands box set.

Thanks for reading and take care out there.

New Additions to the Wastelands.

I got a bunch of other minis in a box of Orks sent by my mate Xander. They are well painted and seeing as naff all else is going on thanks to the destructo kittens I thought I would post them up. This lot will be found wandering around mattblackgod's world.

These guys will probably see action as a Merc unit (the Z-team?). They have a couple of plasma weapons which are a rarity in the Wastelands. They may have found a lost SOS Bunker.

A couple of Wastelanders. The guy on the left would fit in with the Warriors Gang. How ever I may use them to start a Across the Dead Earth gang. Or maybe low level muscle for the Mercs in the pic above.

A raider chick.

I have a few cultists and this guy would fit in what ever loony thing is being preached in the wastes today.

Thanks for looking.

24th Browncoats

During the many wars & invasions that has happened across the colonies and independent edge worlds the Confederacy of Independent worlds raised many reg tag looking regiments to fight off various invaders be they pirates, Solar Nations, Corporations or the Galactic Blok nations. Many of these regiments where nicked named "Browncoats" because of the distinctive Brown Coats worn by these freedom fighters.

While Wolfden is not a member of the Confederacy it is a important trade hub for many of the Confederate worlds. To protect Wolfden the 24th "Browncoats" where posted to the world. After a few years the figment disbanded and quite a few fighters stayed on Wolfden forming a Mercenary company in the pay of the World's leader:- Lady Valium. They see various deployments against the Outback and Badlands gangs or as extra muscle for the Wolfden Security Forces.

Group shot:

The figures are 15mm.co.uk Rim Mercenaries.

I see this force as begin quite rag tag mixing equipment and uniform colours. The only thing tying them together is the Browncoat they wear. In the to paint pile is a converted Matchbox vehicle which will serve as a patrol vehicle.

This force will grow as there are more Rim Mercenary packs available from 15mm.co.uk. I am also tempted to mix in some WW2 US GIs and USA Vietnam figures too. In the end I would like this force to be at least Platoon strength as I plan some games of Stargrunt.

Blue Wolf Mercs, Space Pirates and Vehicles.

More 15mm goodness for my Wild Galaxy setting.

These guys I painted up a while back but they will be getting used as Blue Wolf Mercenaries

The figures are GZG NAC Marines in berets.

This is the total force of Space Pirates I have so far...

There is a mix of Power Armour and light power armour in there looted from various places.

I have been busy with vehicles too. The Blue Wolves have a APC....

This was a cheap toy in the pound shop. Fits nicely scale wise. Those launcher tubes could be anti personnel, anti tank or SAM.

There is lots of machines laying about in the colonies....

This rusty old pickup was a Toys toy. I bit of trimming to remove the goofy face and putty and you have a rusty old wrecking truck.

For the fancier Hi Tech colonies or the rich folks perhaps a fancy town car? This is some sort of micro machines toy. I have done nothing with it as it looks ok to my eye.

Then you have those old buggies that run about the wastelands and deserts of the colonies...

This buggy is a scratch build. It is a bit of balsa, 4 beads, some mesh, putty, Qtip/cotton bud stem and lots of greenstuff putty. It was easy and fun to build. I hope to build better ones in the future. It is possible that my post apoc may go 15mm in the future.

Liberty City Mercs: White Star Co

This group of Mercs are descended from the military reservist unit that joined the survivors who later founded Liberty City. It was a military unit during the cities wars. It only became fitting that they became Mercs. The are fiercely patriotic to the city.

The minis are a mix of EM4 pre-paints and some unknown minis I picked up painted from TMP years ago.

Close up of the ladies of the unit. Anyone know who makes them?

Liberty City Mercs: Dust Co

Liberty City relies on the Watch to protect it and keep the peace on the streets. However they rely on Mercenaries to carry out military functions such as patrol the Outposts (called Stations by the city), patrol the areas beyond the city walls, make strikes against the cities enemies (Bandits, Raiders, Anarchists, Slavers, Nu Sodom City) and the usual stuff Mercs are used for. The Mercs are controlled by a Guild who ensure everyone is treated fairly and each Merc band has a compound within the cities walls. The Mercs work closely with the Watch and often Commander Venom is personally with them during attacks.

Here is Dust Co. This band started life as a group of Stalkers. After performing a few missions controlling mutants in the ruins they realised they had a talent for Mercenary work. Dust Co will employ Stalkers who fancy a change of pace from digging in the ruins or being chased by huge dribbley mutants.

The Minis are EM4 hazmat troopers.
