Angels and Minnows

Hello and Welcome Back,

Time to see more alien creatures from the Wild Galaxy.

Originally found around worlds close to black holes the Angels and Minnows are strange creatures. Very little is known about them except that the Minnow is the young version and grows into the more fearsome Angel. It is not understood how the Minnow grows into a Angel.

Generally the Angels are not aggressive to humans and there are stories of them aiding injured or stranded spacers. It is how they got the name Angels. The Angels seem to be able to tell at a distance about humans intentions towards them and will vanish or attack if they feel in danger.

These creatures have a PSI effect on any humans encountering them. The effect can either be elation or terror and the creatures seem to be able to decide which way they can influence the human they target. Humans they encounter can also be affected by dreams or nightmares for decades after. Some researchers claim that the Angel or Minnow are remotely influencing these dreams, even from across the galaxy. Some of the effected claim there are hidden messages in the dreams. Are the Angels trying to communicate with humanity?

These mysterious creatures seem to be unaffected by the void of space and travel across the galaxy in drifting space hulks. They often come as a shock to salvage teams (known as Vultures) when they run into Angels aboard a hulk. Many recall seeing the at the initial contact but wake to find them gone, after blacking out.

It is thought that the Angels are born from the chaos of a black hole, or have travelled here from another dimension somehow via the black hole or it's energies. Of course no one really knows. No Angels or Minnows have ever been captured alive and their bodies quickly fade into nothing upon death. Along with the other mysterious incidents around contact with Angels has given rise to supernatural tales about these creatures.

The figures are Angels and Minnows by Malestroms Edge. I like the sinister alien look they have.

Thanks for looking and Take Care.

Prefab Hab

Hello there, welcome back to my blog.

We are visiting the world of Dejlibelli. Today we will take a look at a different type of building found on frontier worlds. The didgprinted prefab is quick to create and stops all this time consuming building with local resources nonsense that seems popular with the poorer colonists.

There are many types and styles of prefab in existence. They can be transported in flat pack style in a ship’s hold or be printed in situ using a digi printer rig usually fitted in a ship’s hold. These ships are usually hired and flown to the colony site. Digi printing offers the advantage of being able to manipulate the files to produce a vast array of buildings. Another alternative is the Digi rig used for larger buildings like this hab. They use a control computer, several print posts placed around the structure site and a couple of printer drones.

This model began life as a salad bowl tub. Yes, do eat healthily occasionally. Not too often though, I don’t want to give healthy living the wrong impression!  After scoffing the salad the tub was washed and kept because I liked the flat cutouts on the bowl sides. A coating of mod podge with paper reinforced the insides. A couple of coats of mod podge and 48 hours to set and the flimsy sides were solid.

The doors, windows and other bits came from the Maelstroms Edge terrain kits. These kits are really useful for building Sci Fi terrain. After I cut out the holes to take the doors and windows I added a base for extra ridigity.

The whole thing was primed grey with good old car primer. A first for me was to try chipping fluid on this build. You paint it on the base coat in the places you want the wear and chips to be. Paint over it - in this case white car primer. When the paint has dried wet the areas with the chipping fluid and rub off the chipping fluid. Some colours where added to the door and window shutters over chipping fluid.

The base got my standard sand, cork, small stones mix glued to it. It was painted brown and dry brushed with dark sand. Some tufts finish it off.

The model had some markings, graffiti and posters added.

That’s it done. A cheap effective looking building with some thanks to Maelstroms  edge terrain sprues for all the handy stuff on them.

Thanks for looking. Stay safe out there.

Here come the Guardians

Welcome back Wanderer, typical isn’t it? No decent blog posts for a while and then loads arrive at once. Just like souped up V8s in the in the post apocalyptic wastelands.

In this blog post......

Here come the Guardians!

The Guardians came from a military bunker that they weathered the nuclear firestorm in.  Long ago they decided long ago that humanity couldn’t be trusted with technology especially advanced weapons. Their aim is to collect high tech weaponry and equipment with the intention of keeping them from irresponsible hands. Although everyone else see them as hoarders who are grabbing all the good stuff for themselves.

With their power armour and superior weapons they often bully wastelanders into giving up their weapons and kit. This makes them very unpopular. The Guardians are always questing for lost bunkers and military facilities to search for equipment.

There is several classes of Guardian. Patrols are often of mixed classes of Guardian. Guardians of each class need to be able to identify items of interest and operate the more common technologies of the ancients.

Gamma class Guardians make up the majority of Guardians (red helmet stripes and shoulder pad), equipped with salvaged combat armour and a variety of weapons. The most powerful is the whirlwind harness. Equipped with a gauss machine gun, cutting claw and two batteries of rockets gives an edge over most wasteland opponents. The Gamma class Guardians are Epirians from Maelstroms Edge.

Epsilon class Guardians are often equipped with Void class power armour (although other varieties of power armour is used) and usually some form of heavy SMG. They are the veterans of the Clan. Orange shoulder flashes and helmet strips denote this class of Guardian with leaders wearing blue shoulder flashes. These are old plastic void viridians I have had for a while. In a previous life they where Red Lance troops.

They are pictured here (above) with an old Battle Droid which can give heavy support although assets such as these are usually reserved for protecting bases.

Group shot with Kappa class Guardian Sheila D’Eath.

The Guardians main bunker is in a secret location and it deploys semi independent Chapters across the wastelands as they see the need. There is currently two deployed chapters. One is in the ruins of Matt Black City trying to discover the secrets of the Trogs and the other deployed in the Brittianna wastelands keeping an eye on the city’s technological development and growth.

The Guardians are inspired by Fallout’s Brotherhood of Steel. They are quite a force now and I can see them growing as I add other ranks and classes. Gamma class may see other types of combat armoured figures added to mix up the look of the force. It is possible some 4TK power armour suits and heavy power armour suits may be added in future.

Thanks for looking and avoid the dudes in power armour!
