Thorgrim's Crew

Hello and welcome back,

This crew of Dvarg are one of the many groups of refugees and survivors from the ORCS attack on their homeworld of Luxz VII.

Luxz VII was located on the borders of GELF and Dvarg space. The hordes of ORCS invading, lead to the Dvarg King to order all his people to flee the world. Rather than lose the world to the hated ORCS, the King remained alone, deep beneath the surface of the planet. He activated a device that blew Luxz VII into little rocks destroying the ORCS hordes and the homeworld. It cemented his name in Dvarg legend and there is little doubt that the destruction of Luxz VII stopped a major ORCS incursion into Dvarg space.

The surviving Luxz VII Dvargs were spread across Dvarg space, the other worlds welcoming them with open arms. Some Luxz VII Dvargs scattered across Human Frontier space looking for work and oppotunites.

Thorgrim's crew operate as a pirate raider prowling GELF space looking for ORCS or GROTS ships or settlements to raid. Revenge for the l9ss of their world is a high priorty for them.

Bladun, Thorgrim, G4DLF (space werdio who gets everone into trouble) and Philly

Brawlyn, Gnori, Bommyr and Oywn.

Gloink, Bovver, Doric, Beefer, Kily and Oryn.

Bill & Bilijo. Bill is a maintence and general maintenance robot the crew use for accessing derilict hulls.

Many Dvarg worlds have small colonies of Halfer GELF's (Genetically Engineered Lifeforms) and Luxz VII was no exception. Bilijo jumped aboard Thorgrim's ship and is now hired as a cook and thief. Bilijo is successful as a thief as on the first wreck the crew cut into, he found a strange tech device on body. The device cloaks him from sight making him invisible to everything including electronic sensors. Bilijo has a clear resin version for the tabletop, but that has gone missing. *glares at the cats*

Thorgrim's crew are metal figures by Skull n Crown miniatures, Space Scrappers line.

Thanks for looking, stay safe out there

Blue Star Company

Hello there, Welcome Back.

The Blue Star company is a Dvarg mining and engineering company from the Super Earth sized world of Azure, which orbits around a blue dwarf star deep in Dvarg Space.

In addition to the traditional Davrg industries, Blue Sun runs salvage and repair operations in many sectors along Dvarg and Frontier space.

The figures are mainly old school 2nd ed 40K Squats that I have picked up over the years. There are also two resin Chob Minis Space Dwarves carried by Ramshackle Games, which scale up nicely with the old 40k figures.

The wounded squat figure had a missing arm. Thankfully the arms from the Wargames Atlantic Einhenjar fit nicely. I gave him an axe arm.

I need to get all my space dwarves out as one large muster at some point in the future.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.

Dvarg Work Suits

Hello and Welcome Back,

After putting together the Big Red Mining Corporation (BRMC), I spotted the Forge Fathers Artifactor Juggernaut by Mantic Games. Such a mining rig would suit the Dvarg/Squats/Space Dwarves of BRMC perfectly. The resin model comes in several peices and has options to build different looking Mining rigs. You could even choose a layout for a pure combat based model.

As I wanted a rig suitable to smashing wreckage and mining work I chose a power hammer and mining drill. The spare bits went into the cavernous bits box for future conversion work.

In my pile of figures is a bunch of old 40K Rouge Trader era Squats. As they seem to have a theme I am planning a future Squat force, the Blue Star Company. It wont come as a surprise that they will have a blue paint scheme. As I was already looking at the Forge Father Artifactor Juggernaut models from Mantic Games, I got a Iron Ancestor as a Dreadnought style mech as support for the Blue Star Squats.

Like the other model, it is a multipart resin model giving a couple of armament options. The spares have gone in the bitsbox.

One nice thing about the Iron Ancestor model is that they are largely enough to be crewed by a human figure. I can see these models offering combat support for many forces.

As the Dvarg are also traders in my setting, it is possible that they would trade these suits with human allies, for enough loot.

Thanks for looking,

Big Red Mining Company- Skrim faction

Hello and Welcome back,

The Big Red Mining Company is a faction in the Skirm rulebook by Bill Making Stuff. A summary of the faction background is that they are a space dwarf Mining company that orginated from the world Vermillion which orbits a Red Dwarf star. In addtion to their mining activities they are also good at recovering old technology from junk piles (The world of Gutterlands is one giant junk pile).

I do wonder if Bill is a fan of the Red Dwarf TV show?

In Skrim factions only need 6 figures a side, but I expanded the numbers up to 10 so these guys can be used in other games such as Stargrave.

These figures are Chobs Space Dwarves carried by Ramshackle games.

There are also some metal Squats from Macrocosmn. The guy with the mohawk has had a shotgun added.

This small guy is a old 40K Squat from way back.

These three are converted Warhammer Dwarves. I had fun doing these conversions. That triple barreled heavy weapon makes me think of the Tribarrel power guns fitted to the Combat Cars in Hammers Slammers.

The BRMC will also be used as a Dvargs faction in my Wild Galaxy setting. Company scouting teams have arrived on Maddans World to check out the mining opportunities. Wreckage station has also had a team arrive. In addition to the giant ball of ancient technology that is the station, the dead world below offers untold salvage opportunities. Or it will as soon as they atmosphere is balanced.

Back at company HQ on Vermilion the company is comparing their old space charts against the modern Human ones to find dead or lost worlds. Will they find Mattblackgod’s World?

Looking at the pile of shame I have collected a few of old 40K squats. I think I will create another Dvark company using another colour as a rival faction. My tortured brain is also thinking about a way to include my old Squat Engineers Guild figures as a possible free lance squat squad to beef up either faction should I decide to use them in a bigger game, such as facing off against Orks.

Thank you for reading,

Take care out there.

Squatana Jhones and the alien ruins of doom!

Hello and welcome back.

One day Squatana Jhones learned of tales from the Boromites about distant worlds that lie beyond Dvarg and Boromite space. These worlds featured ancient crumbling ruins of a lost civilisation that predates both Humanity and the Boromites species.

Boromites are not interested in such things but the stories awakened the spirit of adventure in Squatana. He immediately started to assemble an expedition force to go and seek out these ruins with the aim to prove Humanity was predated by another galactic civilisation. Plus he might be able to get rich with any artefacts he may discover.

Squatana is a little old school and prefers old technology such as a flaming torch and his dear old grandmother’s best battleaxe. Squatana Jhones is a Macrocosm Witch Hunter who I feel has a vibe of a certain movie franchise archeologist.

The main crew is made up of personalities from his clan and includes a Psyker. Well you never know what you might encounter.

Just in case the expedition runs into something large that wants to eat the Dvarg for lunch (or lots of small things that want to eat the Dvarg for lunch for that matter) the expedition brought along a battle walker. The laser Gatling and power fist will prove useful for dealing with swarms, horrible looking alien monsters or smashing into ancient vaults.

The team brought a couple of grav bikes for fast attack or getting back to the ship urgently.

The Clan members, battle walker and grav bikes came from the Heroes Space Dwarves Kickstarter by LAfig miniatures. I matched them with the Squatana figure as the are a similar size.

Originally I planned this to be a command section for my older 40K Squats but they are somewhat larger. So I chose to make them a individual force with a yellow paint scheme for a industrial look. All the figures are painted with Army Painter Speed Paints. While they worked well on Squatana but the choice of yellow on the Clan looks a bit naff to my eye.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.

Ruston’s crew and more

Hello and welcome back to my blog Wanderer.

Time for some figure updates.

Introducing Stitch.

Stitch is the medic for the Warriors gang from the township of Piean. The figure is a old GW Necromunda Orlock, which is in keeping with the theme of the gang. Stitch has had a gas mask container added as a medical pack.

Moving West from Piean. 10 miles North West across the sands from Rubbleborg lies a strange tower. They say it was once standing in the sea. That has to be a lie, how did the old ones build it under the sea? Not only that but the sea is miles and miles beyond the tower.

Mayor Bustard knows what the tower is or was. It was some sort of natural gas platform. So he convinced a team to go out and try to get the platform operational again. It would be good source of energy for Rubbleborg.

Ruston and his crew have shipped out and are sorting the platform out.

The figures are Dwarves by Ramshackle Games.

Ruston is the crew’s leader. Not much is known about this strange exo armoured Warrior, except he has a short temper and is a great engineer. The figure is a Dwarf Techno Jarl by Ramshackle Games.

Mech Turnkey is the crew’s mech and fix it man. The lone survivor from when his settlement was massacred by raiders he wandered alone and eventually joined the crew. The figure is from Minimus Squat and his crew by Ramshackle Games.

Wreckersen is the team’s muscle. If there is something that needs killing Wreckersen is the Dwarf to do it. The figure is from Minimus Squat and his crew by Ramshackle Games.

Trader Rod Mc Feets is one of Rubbleborg’s many traders. You have to be careful as he will rip you off. The figure is from Minimus Squat by Ramshackle Games.

The 2019 hobby totals so far:

Figures painted: 8
Terrain finished: 1
Terrain reworked: 0
Vehicles finished: 1

Running slow on the painting front thanks to my furry friends. There is more Rubbleborg and Trashford figures to come.

Thanks for reading, take care out there.

Matt Black Datat #2 Squat Bikers.

Squat Bikers.

These Squats are not from the usual settlement of Govin but are freelance gang of engineers.

They roam from settlement to settlement trading their skills for supplies. This gang is well armed and can take on anything that decides to mess with them. There settlement in the ruins is called Hammer town.

The figures are old 40K Rogue Trader Squat bikers/Engineers guild.

Squat/Govannon Battle Suit

The Space Dwarves of Govannon needed some extra firepower as their worlds lie deep within GELF (Genetically Engineered Life Form) which is perilous space. So I added a Mantic Forge Fathers Ancestor to their forces.

This may also be handy for the Squats living on Mattblackgod's world.

The resin kit is easy to assemble. It consists of five parts and the body is a single piece of resin.

Rather than the usual bold colors these types of figures are painted I decided to go with a camouflage scheme.

This figure may also see some action as a Mech for my 15mm figures.

Some new fodder for the MBW grinder...

More meat for the grinder that is Mattblackgod's world. I am sticking them in one post as I have been bombarding blogger with posts today.

First up....a new Trog Pain Boy.

Then a gunner for the Trog Trike. I kept him apart so I can use the Trike for other forces if needed.

The missing Squat Hearthgaurd figure was found at the bottom of a bits box. A mantic weapon was added and he is ready to join his brothers in the defence of Copper Head.

I am ashamed to say I gave him  quick and dirty paint job.

Although the Alchemist figure is for my VSF/steampunk setting (he is the starter for my VSF Anarchists faction) I thought he would be a handy, if sinister figure out in the wastelands. He is here to gas your settlement and steal your loot/food/women.

I am of course still working on figures for Utopia City. First up is a very odd character. With crime so high every now and then some nutter takes the law into his own hands. Usually its someone who has been pushed too far. Introducing....

THE PURPLE AVENGER!

Maybe I should copy right that name? lol

The Purple Avenger flys high between the Utopia City blocks using a jet pack looking for crimes to avenge. He is often very poor at it and usually ends up the victim of crime too.

Nothing is safe in Utopia and Corporation often try to screw each other. Here is a typical Corporate Spy.

The figure is a Grenadier/EM4 Corporate spy. He bears a resemblance to a certain early 90's British Prime minister. So I decided to paint him in a similar fashion as the Spitting Image Puppet of that Politician. A lot of grey tones was used in the paint job. There was even grey in the skin tones.

What does every city need? Non Coms. Meat bags and bullet magnets that get in the way. First up a news team...

Again the figures are by Grenadier/EM4.

A couple of standers by...

This pair are clix figures. Who knows they could be PIs or a similar organisation.

More Space Dwarves....

Some more members of my Govannon faction - for use with Sci-Fi and Post Apoc.

They needed more firepower. The Iron Guard needed an officer so the guy in the middle (Mantic) is there to keep them under control.

The guys with miniguns are from Black Hat Dvargs line.

Govannon Hearthguard

The Warlord and his bodyguards for Govannon are here....

They are rarely seen on the battlefield and arrive when things are bad.

The minis are old 40K Squat Hearthguard that I have had laying about unpainted for over 20 years!

Govannon Steel Patrol

The Govannon mountain Steel Patrol. These are armoured troops that never leave the valleys around Govannon Mountain (also known as Hammer mountain to the Wastelanders due to the Hammer symbol the faction uses). They protect the mountain from raiders and outsiders which is easy enough due to the terrain of the area. The Steel Patrol occasionally go as far as the neighbours in Lanc when they are needed.

These minis are Mantic Plastic Forge Fathers Steel Warriors. I found them easy to assemble with plenty of options to add a bit of variety to the minis. They paint up nicely and have plenty of character. I would get these again. This little lot (no pun intended) need some sort of vehicle I think.
