The Truckdoza

Alreet! Welcome Back.

Need transport across the Wastelands? Come book the Truckdoza. Rough terrain is not a problem. The ram deals with obstructions and barricades with ease. As the wasteland is a risky place a twin machine gun is mounted on the cab to deal with those pesky bandits and mutants.

Many years ago, I picked up this cool pickup truck from Ramshackle Games.

The model is heavy and I can be clumsy. I dropped the truck from height and snapped some wheels off. It was assigned to the rework bits box.

During the Covid Lockdowns, I discovered the truck while looking for bits. I also found these cool looking tracks in there, from a cheap B&M stores toy tank. They matched the length of the truck perfectly.
The problem was fitting them. Stripping the truck down, I had to remove the truck bed component. I ran some Balsa wood batons the length of the Truckadoza. This allowed the tracks to be fitted with small wood screws. The dozer blade was fitted from the orginal model. The rear gate was made from a gift card I had been punching rivets from. Some resin junk armour was added from Ramshackle games. A Fox Box Ork Jerrycan and back pack (now availble from Ramshackle games) was also added.

The Truckdoza was parked (pun intended) until last week, when sorting bits for the Junk Raft (see my previous post).

I added googly eyes to hide the screw tops holding the tracks on. The vehicle needed foot boards. The were made from gift cards and interesting looking bits cut from plastic food trays. Another backback was added from the bits box, along with a Ork Skull which was painted in mythril silver as a nod for the film Mad Max fury road.

Some armament was needed. Another bits box delve turned up another Ramshackle Item, which has lurked there for over a decade. A mount was made from two circles of EVA foam. Rivets were added. I am using tiny nail jewels. You can buy packets of 1000 quite cheaply. They are consistant looking and a better match to the model scale.

The model was primed black and heavily drybrushed in sheet metal. The whole thing was washed in brown. I could have left it there, in a oxidised grimey metal state. Grey was sponged over the metal panels and then colours sponged over the top to give a worn or chipped paint look.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.

Mutants

 Hello and Welcome Back,

A new pair of mutants to harrass the wastelands.

Curtis over at Ramshackle Games is a good egg and always throws in an extra couple of figures (thank you Curtis). I always find them useful for conversions or trying out new or different paint styles.

Both figures were undercoated with white primer. The left figure was washed with my brown wash that I use for terrain (Brown acrylic paint, sepia ink, water and a couple of drops of washing up liquid). The models were painted with speed paints.

I think the left hand brown washed figure has a warmer feel than the right hand figure.

Thanks for reading, stay safe out there.

New Guardians Power Armour

Hello and Welcome back,

The Guardians are a wasteland society that collect old technology and weapons to prevent humanity on Mattblackgod’s World from repeating the mistakes of the past (my version of Fallout's Brotherhood of Steel). Many of the people of the Wastelands regard these wasteland "knights" as oppressors rather than saviours.

The local chapter of the Guardians has uncovered a couple of suits of power armour in the Last City Wastes.

Some antique power armour, found in (what was) a private museum and made operational. This T60 armour is from the Fallout game.

This suit is botched together and originally it belonged to a bandit warlord. Until the Guardians 'liberated' it from him. At least thats one less bunch of bandits for Wastelanders to worry about. This figure uses Khordal Pattern Armour base figure by Ramshackle games as a starting point. These figures come without arms or head. They are useful for using up all those 40k Space Marine spares people seem to accumulate. I also dropped a helmet from a plastic Void Viridian.

Thanks for reading and stay safe out there.

Wasteland Mutants

Hello and Welcome Back,

Time is flying by and I am getting way behind on my blogging. So here is a couple of figures I finished back in August to get the ball rolling.

The Wastelands of Mattblackgod’s world are filled with strange weird mutants. Fixture is a random warrior who will happily fight alongside the Rustlords.

Fixture is from Ramshackle Games, and is a figure with the same name.

This mutant is particularly disturbing. No one knows what it is or where it came from.

This figure is the Toe Tickler by Ramshackle games. This figure was quite fun to paint.

I guess I now need to get taking some more pictures to get more posts written.

Thanks for looking

Take care out there.

New and old Wastelanders

Hello and Welcome Back,

I have managed to get a few more Post Apocalyptic figures finished.

As mentioned in a previous post I feel my Wastelands needs more mutants.

Here is Gribble, he scavengers the Wastelands looking for items to trade at the local townships. Gribble is a Ramshackle Games figure of the same name.

" I am just here for the guzzoline....have you seen my teeth?"

Old Max...the now aging road warrior is still out there wandering. I couldn't resist buying the figure. I am afraid that I can't remember who makes the Old Max figure, even Google has proven fruitless in finding the manufacturer. .

Here comes Levi, playing the backing track to life in the Wastelands (as if life wasnt tough enough!). Levi is a another member of the Robot and Android Liberation Front (RALF) and tours the wastelands looking for robots and androids to "liberate". If the .bin or .exe file and pamphlets won't free the machines from a life of slavery, then there are many other RALF members happy to do it by force. Levi is painted in the same colours as his RALF brothers and sisters. Levi is a Ramshackle Games figure of the same name.

Thanks for looking,

Take care out there.

Rustlords and Skrapknights additions

Hello and welcome back,

We are back on the Post Apocalyptic world that is known as Mattblackgod’s world. I have been slowly fleshing out the Skrapknights and Rustlords factions.

Patrols of the Rustlords and Skrapknights clash while random scavengers look on.

Rustlords Warriors. These resin figures are Vulcan and Staveley Ramshackle games. They have been left as Curtis intended. I decided on green flesh for the Staveley figure as I think the Wastelands needs more mutants.

Skrapknights Warriors. These resin figures are Orbseer, Staveley and Vulcan by Ramshackle games. The Orbseer figure will be the Skrapknights version of Merlin. Staveley had the shield swapped out for a fantasy skeleton's one. The axe was replaced by a 40K space Marine powersword. A Space Marine Scout biker shotgun holster was added at the waste to give the figure a potential Boomstick. The Vulcan figure had the helmet replaced by a Void Plastic Junkers one. I have decided to paint the Skrapknights robes in a more colourful fashion in the style of medieval knights, which should help distinguish the two factions on the tabletop.

There will be more additions to both factions in future.

Thanks for looking and stay safe out there.

Rust knight

Hello and Welcome back,

Time for another visit to the Post Apocalyptic world that is Mattblackgod’s world. This fellow is a rust Knight who is in the service of the Rustlords.

The wearer of this suit is the latest in a long line of owners. Repaired many times over the decades the suit was originally salvaged from the ruins of a pre apocalypse reenactors home.

The first owner believed that the suit and sword would make him invincible, but he forgot that you have to sleep some time.

This figure is a old Grenadier chaos Knight. It will also serve as a opponent in fantasy settings.

Thanks for reading,

Take care out there.

Some Figure conversion WIPs

Hello and Welcome back.

A quick figure WIP of various figures that I am working on.

The first up are a bunch of Space Dwarves for the Big Red Mining Corporation for the Skirm game by Bill Making Stuff. They are based on old plastic Warhammer Dwarves.

This guy is sporting Mantic Games Forge Fathers arms and back pack. A visor/goggles has been added with greenstuff.

The Squat has a big arse gun that I am unsure of the origin (possbily Mantic). It kind of reminds me of the Tribarrel power guns fitted to the Combat Cars in the Hammers Slammers universe (I need to re read these novels one day).

His pickaxe arm is from a Heresy miniatures Dwarf Miner. Some hoses and eyepiece was added from green stuff. The eye peice is a tiny nail art gem, which also make excellent rivets.

This guy sports his hammer arm but has a plastic Void Viridian machine pistol added. Some green stuff shoulder pads were added along with a similar eye peice to the last mini.

The colour scheme for this faction will have red highlights or details to tie them together. This should also make them look like members of the Big Ded Mining Corporation.

Then we come to some Ramshackle miniatures currently sat on the bench.

This Vulcan miniature on the right has had a head swap from a Void Plastic Junkers figure. He is planned to join the Skrapknights. The original Vulcan will be joining the opposing faction of the Rust Lords.

The Staveley figure on the left has a fantasy shield (with some Combat damage added with a scalpel) and a 40k Space Marine power sword arm. Out of sight around the back there is a Space Marine Scout shotgun holster. The converted Staveley will be joining the Skrap knights while the orginal will join the Rust Lords.

These two are Khordal Pattern Armour figures. I chose these as they are ripe for kitbashing and using up all those space Marine spare parts. Plus they make good Post Apocalyptic power armour.

The figure on the left has Space Marine and some Chaos Maurader parts from the bits box and a Anvil Skull helmet adding. I am thinking he will become Mattius Black, the leader of the Last City. The figure on the right also got Space Marine arms and pads. The head is a old Void Viridian helmet. I plan to add this figure to my Guardians faction (think Fallout Brotherhood of steel).

Hopefully soon they will be added to the paint queue...it's anyone's guess when these figures will be finished. Future kitbashes are also planned as I need to build a DEAP (mutated bio weapons that will become a kind of GELF for my setting) and Rusters (rusty tribals which may become a new MBW faction) factions for Skirm.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.

Post Apocalyptic Nomad Warriors

 Hello and Welcome back,

Typical, you hang around for ages waiting for a blog post and loads of them arrive at the same time.

I am not getting many post apocalyptic figures painted lately. My focus seems to be on Science Fiction lately. But I did manage one that has sat in the to finish queue for some time.

The post apocalyptic wastelands are filled with lone wanderers. Individuals who are often scarred and damaged in some way by the horrors of the apocalypse. They are unable to settle down or join settlements.

Some blame themselves for the loss of loved ones or those they should have helped. They become bitter burnt out desolate shells. Out here in the wastelands, they learn to live again.

Some of these wanderers believe that they have a personal mission to wander the wastelands, helping those in need. They believe they have a quest to help rebuild the world and call themselves "Post Apocalyptic Nomad Warriors".

This figure is by Lead Adventure Miniature "the last heros" that I picked it up many years ago off Ebay, already prepped and primed. I suspect it is inspired by Eli, from the film about a bloke with a book wandering the wastelands.

The Post Apocalyptic Nomad Warrior moniker was taken from a novel by Benjamin Wallace (part of his Duck and cover series) . Search them out, they are worth a read.

Fogou Ruins

Hello and Welcome Back.

Time for a visit to some beautiful resin terrain by Fogou Models.

I ordered the Fantasy Ruins from Fogou's Kickstarter campaign.

They could be used for Post Apocalyptic too, but I intended to use them for either Frostgrave or perhaps Late Stone Age fantasy.

A colonial defence force investigate some old ruins.

Fogou's models are cast in a heavy Jesmonite resin. They are very durable on the tabletop. While being heavy the resin isn't brittle. One of the nice things about painting Jesmonite, is that it doesn't usually need a undercoat. Paint goes on nicely and doesn't wear off.

My painting approach was quick. The steps are:

1. Despite what I said above, these models were primed with Acrylic rattle can primer.

2. The models all got a heavy dry brush with Coat d Arms Mid Grey (I prefer to use paint in pots for terrain rather than dropper bottle paint).

3. If you look at any old stone buildings the stones are not uniform in colour. I picked out individual stones with the following colours. Note: don't pickout too many stones, it is only to break up the colour.

I. Coat D Arms Hairy Brown

ll. Nostaliga 88 Snakebite Leather

iii. Coat D arms Light Grey

4. Lightly dry brush with Coat d arms Light Grey

5. Pick out the wood with Coat d arms Bone.

6. I give all the models a wash with my magic wash formula (wood included). This is mix of Burnt Sennia acrylic craft paint and Sepia Ink in a rough 80:20 mix. This is watered down to a 50:50 and then a drop of washing up liquid added to aid flow. Just apply the wash, dilute it in places. The aim is to get the wash into the nooks and crannies as well to tie all the colours together. The wash doesn't have to be even as when it comes to stone buildings uniformity of the stone colour doesn't exist.

7. Once dry the wood parts of the models were given a further wash of Army Painter Dark Tone Quickwash.

I was thinking of adding tufts to these models but then I want to be able to use the models in different settings, including Sci Fi. I also like the rubble inserts for the edge of the walls.

I know I am lucky to have quite a few of Fogou's models in my collection, to my mind these models are well worth the coin.

Note: I am not affiliated with Fogou in any way other than being a fan of their models.

Next up, the Fogou Ringfort. Keep watching.

Thanks for looking

Take care out there.

The Lone Scavenger

Hello and Welcome Back,

lone scavenger protects his camp.

I painted this figure towards the end of past year, but it has taken me this long to complete the base. This figure is a metal Stargrave Scavenger. This figure was a delight to paint.

Thanks for looking and take care out there.

Scabies Crew.

Hello and Welcome back to my bit of internet land.

Captain Scabies lead her people from an oldworld Military Bunker. The bunker's aging systems had begun to fail, forcing them above ground. Upon emerging into the highly contaminated eastern wastelands, the survivors trecked for many days towards the radio signals from Last City. The chance to join the last remnant of civilisation was a stong incentive. During the journey the toxins and mutated creatures of the wastelands picked off the squad members one by one.

Scabies Crew

By the time they reached Last City only 10 of the squad remained. By this time four of the team sported heavy mutations from exposure to the many mutagenic toxins still present on Mattblackgod’s world. Although Last City is largely mutant friendly, Mattius Black decided that this crew was too horrific to remain in the city. So he posted the Scabies crew to camp Skull at the edge of the ruins of Toxicity, five days march eastwards.

Captain Scabies

The crew's numbers slowly dwindled defending camp Skull from all the monstrosities that live in the highly contaminated ruins of Toxicity. Deciding that they weren't getting what they needed from Last City, upon a relief crew arriving at Camp Skull, Scabies lead her crew to the Weird place some 5 days march south. They now run a salvager camp in the weird place.

Squad sniper and medic

Mattius Black has ignored the desertion as there is some good salvage coming from the weird place. It is also a bonus that heavily mutated crew are even further away from the city.

The heavily mutated squad members.

Mutant Doggy Doo, who was once human but upon fighting a rad Wolf, fell into a toxins pool in the wastelands clutching the beast. Some how the mutagens in the pool bonded some radwolf dna to the Trooper. He became a twisted pseudo man Wolf. The crew couldn't abandon thier freind and Doggy Doo's sensitive nose has proven useful in keeping the squad safe.

Scabies Crew are resin figures from is the Weird war Desparate Trench Crew by Ramshackle Games.

More denziens of the Wastelands.

Hello and Welcome back, pull up a crate and let me tell you about more folk who live in the Wastelands.

The Technomancer

The Technomancer is legendary across the Last City and wastelands beyond. He is a wizard with ancient technology. Want to get that old tablet working or robot activated? Need to find out what that gizmo you found in the ruins is? Then he is the man to visit. Beware his staff. While it is fitted with a jury rigged scanner to find ancient technology it is also equipped with an electrical shock weapon which stuns living things and machines alike. The staff has been very useful when a dormant warbot awakes and goes beserk. The Last City Authorities take a dim view on rampaging Warbots within the city limits.

The Technomancer is a based on a Frostgrave plastic wizard figure. The head came from a Necromunda Orlock sprue. The gun arm came another Necromunda Underhive figure. The shoulder pad and pouches were found in the depths of the bits box. His shock staff/scanner is a Frostgrave wizard arm with a modified staff. A bead makes up the power pack while the scanner dish is a 1/76 tank wheel. The power lines are plastic cord from a bead set.

I imagine the Technomancer living in a tower of scrap and junk. That is a possible future terrain project.

The Scavenger

Scavenging is a way of life for most out in the wastelands. This figure is a Stargrave metal scavenger. I am planning on making the plastics up make general wasteland rabble as they have the right look. There also a few other metal scavengers in the paint queue. So expect to see more in the future.

A new Guardian

The Guardians are a faction that horde military technology and weapons, apparently to keep the surviving humanity “safe from repeating the mistakes of the past” (inspired by Fallout's Brotherhood of Steel). They wander around the wastelands, lead by old power armored units looking for dangerous weapons and equipment. Often taking such treasures by force. While they view themselves as humanity's' saviours, they are viewed as bullies by the denizens of the wastelands. Their equipment is varied as the power armor came from many different sources during Mattblackgods world end wars.

This new addition to my Guardian forces is a resin Stargrave power armored trooper. While nice figures I found it a bit too detailed to paint.

Warlord Byron

Warlord Byron is the leader of the settlement of Byronville in the Freepeoples Wastes. He parades around in a old power armored suit (many of his “subjects” would say throwing is weight around) and offers his town’s support to the Freepeoples Confederacy.

Warlord Byron is a resin Stargrave Power Armored Pirate figure. Again a very detailed, very busy figure which I found a pain to paint.

Nak the big un.

Nak is a mutant, appearing large and hulking compared to other Wastelanders. His size makes him stand out. Despite his size and strength Nak is a gentle soul who shuns humanity and other mutants. Sadly, his size and strength also makes him a target. He lives alone in the wastes preferring solitude and befriends (cares for) injured animals.

Nak is a super mutant figure from a cheap 54mm Fallout figure set.

“Hey Nak, lets team up. Your muscle would be handy getting those heavier bits of salvage back. We will split it seventy thirty! That’s fair, right?”

Thanks for looking, stay safe out there!
