Wasteland Wondering - 15mm terrain update.

Hello and welcome back to another Wasteland Wondering.

Gah! It's Easter already. Where has the year gone? At least (I hope) I may get some hobby time in. I have been a little busy of late making some terrain for my 15mm post apoc project.

First up is a display board for my 15mm stuff. I intended to use this as a test for how I want my terrain boards to look.

This is made from a vynil floor tile stuck to a old pizza box lid to increase stiffness. After sanding it I glued some sand to the board. It was then hit with a red oxide rattle can. I found this a little too red for the look I want. Routing around in the hobby cave I uncovered pots of Vallejo Dry Earth and a Sand textured paints. The dry earth and sand were brushed on and water added to mix it on the floor tile. It has given a nice semi dried look to the board.

Some fine cork chippings where glued on in places. I painted these light grey and then drybrushed them with white. The whole board was lightly dry brushed with sand and then bone colours. A chestnut wash was added to tone and blend the colours. I feel this board still needs something but I am not sure what.

In history back.....before the days of this blog I made some terrain for my VSF games set on Mars.

I have decided that the Mars terrain might be useful for various scales however it looks a little redder than I wanted.

I plan to retouch these up in the same manner as the above display tile.

In the dark corners of my hobby cave there was some bits left over from my undercity project which was made mainly from Mantic Sci Fi kits:

I intended to use these as walls for my 28mm however they will make very good perimeter walls for 15mm SF with a little paint.

Meanwhile the crashed Harrier project moves forward slowly. I got the ground cover and textured paint done.
Next weathering, washes and highlighting.

My planned terrain boards for my 15mm post apoc project are still in design with my mulling over several ideas for what I want and how I will achieve it.

I have been working on a couple of vehicles. A Ural truck and a SF vehicle from Critical Mass Games. These are still WIP and need a bit more work.

In the 15mm queue there is the shanties from white dragon, the mdf ruins, ruins and adobe buildings by Amera Plastic Mouldings. Plenty to keep me going for a bit.

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good Easter weekend. Stay safe out there.

White Dragon Goodies.

Weclome back to my demented ramblings.

Not much happening at the moment hobby wise. Last weekend I managed to get some resin and mdf models primed. I even started painting. This stalled when one of my young cats started invading my paint table wanting to play. So like the dutiful cat slave I cleared it away to play with him & prevent the potential disaster of paint spillage. At this point he lost interest and went to sleep. Cats!!

Plans to start some terrain boards has stalled as I have not had a chance to go shopping for supplies. There is also some 15mm terrain bits from Amera Plastic Mouldings to get painted up.

My car is in for major underside repairs which will take a couple of days. Apparently PT Cruisers are not made for the wasteland state of many of Britain's roads. So I am using the old Rat Bike. The long commutes each way battling traffic can leave you a little tired of an evening. More so than travelling in a car. The battering from the wind and being in a higher state of alertness takes it's toll.

My old Rat bike

Carrying huge bags of sand and pots of paint is difficult on a motorbike. Not impossible but very difficult. I once carried a couple of sacks of potting soil on a bike. That was fun. It made it handle like a three legged giraffe on hallucinagenic drugs at a disco. Not recommended. So no terrain building shopping will happen until I get my old car back.

My evening was brightened up by the arrival of some bits I ordered from White Dragon Miniatures. When I saw the 15mm shanty buildings I could not resist. They are perfect for my 15mm post apocalyptic project.

Makings of a post apoc village.

Once I had got the cat to remove his head from the box and stopped him trying to eat the styrofoam packing chips (weird animal!) I managed to get a good look my goodies. The castings look good with no casting bubbles or flash. The smaller pieces have a little resin flash to clean up. It shouldn't take too much to clean them up. Now all I need is some dry weather to get them primed. I look forward to getting them painted.

Back to the cat wrangling. Thanks for looking. Stay safe out there.

Harrier wreck WIP.

Over on the Post Apoc Wargames forum there is a Post Apoc Aircraft challenge. I have started work on a 15mm harrier wreck. I intend this to be scenery or possibly a game objective. Scavengers could live well trading with Drop City with bits from a wreck like this.

Various bits have been cut off with a saw. The cockpit canopy needed trimming and the seat/pilot removed to make it look like the pilot ejected.

Next up I need to get some ground cover on the base.

Thanks for looking, stay safe out there.
