15mm Wasteland Characters

15mm scale is really talking to me at the moment. As a result I am starting a 15mm Post Apoc project. The plan is to restart Mattblackgod's world in 15mm with some new towns and some reused factions in 15mm.

There will be some reusing of my 15mm Wild Galaxy figures, as soon as I have sorted my first setting fluff  for "Drop Town". I will be gaming mainly small skirmish games.

Firstly let me introduce you to THE WARLORD!!!!

This is the big bad scary guy who will be commanding hordes of fierce wastelanders. The stories say that the wolf pelt he wears came from a wolf the Warlord killed with his teeth! This figure is by Khurasan minatures and is large for a 15mm.  Which suits as it makes him intimidating looking leader.

Alice came into the Shanties outside Drop Town a couple of seasons back. She is a hardcase and skilled fighter. Alice has a sense of justice which she cannot ignore. Her kick ass attitude has come to the attention of the leader of Drop Town, a old guy called Dok. He has made her an associate (half citizen of Drop Town) if she takes the job of Sheriff of the Shanties. Someone needs to keep law and order in the shanty town. Alice is considering his proposal. The figure is by Khurasan Miniatures.

This is the Wanderer. A strange loner who is more than a little crazy. He wanders into the Shanties and Drop Town Market from time to time to trade salvage for fuel, ammunition and parts. No one has ever seen the vehicle he runs. No one dares follow him out into the wastes as he is crazy. The figure is by Khurasan Miniatures.

This guy is called "Marked One". No one knows his real name, not even him. He currently works at the largest bar in the shanties, the 111,000 creds bar. He works as the bouncer cracking the heads of drunks who get out of hand. Marked One carries a sniper rifle of excellent quality and is a crack shot. This scavenger speaks of his travels and a place out beyond the mountains filled with salvage, strange mutant animals, toxins, radioactivity and stranger phenomenon. He calls this place the Zone and often says he will return because it keeps calling him. Many Scavengers think he is a little unhinged.

I have no idea what this mini is but I liked it a lot (*edit - The figure is from Ion Age).

Group shot.

Thats all for now. Thanks for looking.

Civilization Interceptor Drivers.

Hello and Welcome back to my blog,

Hobby! Hobby! I am actually getting some hobby related stuff done! I have to distract the cat hordes and wear them out for a hour or so. This leaves me a couple of hours of time to spend doing hobby stuff whilst they sleep. It stops all the noses and paws in everything.

I have managed to get some 20mm figures finished for my Blood and Fire setting.

These are Interceptor Drivers from Civilisation. They patrol out into the Wastelands to keep Civilisation safe from the vermin on machines.

Zac Kelly loves to play old world rock and metal when he rides into battle. He is a cool cat and very little rattles him. The figure is a old GW Dark Future mini.

Karla Kickass is one of the few lady Interceptor drivers. She is a fierce opponent and doesn't like to lose. The figure is by Elhiem miniatures. The sculpt isn't too great.

Kip Charles is a ex military hardcase. Kip is a veteran of a thousand battles. He is gung ho and shows no mercy. The figure is a old GW Dark Future figure.

The car in the background is a old GW Dark Future Interceptor.

Thanks for looking and stay safe out there!

Wasteland Wondering. 15mm fun.

Hello and welcome back.

I am glad to report that I have finally got some hobby work on this week. The going has been slow as I have numerous interruptions from my two furry hooligans who felt the need to investigate every thing that I was doing. They are not yet 1 year old and are still very inquisitive. Thankfully they have decided that my toys are not interesting enough to play with or eat.

First up was this 15mm scale MDF ruin I picked up from evilbay. It is designed for WW2 games. I figured that it will look great on my 15mm post apoc setting.

The kit is well detailed. My only issues are that there is no internal walls and only one set of floor boards for the upper floors. I added some internal walls to break up lines of sight inside the ruin.

15mm mdf ruins seem to be plentiful out there and amera plastic mouldings make some too. It won't be long until I have a full table for my scavengers to fight over.

I got some minis painted this week too. Last year I started some 20mm figures to be Interceptor Drivers as part of my Blood and Fire setting. I set too finishing them off. Two of them are old GW Dark Future figures and the other is from Elheim. In addition to this there is four 15mm figures, mainly from Rebel (I think). These are the first additions to my 15mm post apocalyptic setting.

The figures just need basing now. I plan a 15mm version of Mattblackgod's world but with largely new factions. I need to get my first background finished ("Droptown") and get recruiting from my Wild Galaxy collection.

This week a new hot tool polystyrene cutter arrived on my door mat. Eager to try it out I quickly attacked a cliff top I made a while back. I have been itching to add a cave entrance to it.

The cutter works well. Quickly I had a cave mouth. It will need some practice for more complex cuts I think. The lump of polystyrene I removed will become a rocky outcrop on the table. The cutter happily carves high density blue foam too.

That's all for now. I am happy to be hobbying again.

Thanks for reading. Take care out there.

Warlord's Challenge 2017 - PA aircraft WIP

Over on the Post Apocalyptic Wargames Forum, the Warlord's 2017 challenge is to build a post apocalyptic aircraft. If you like the sound of it come join in the fun.

Link to 2017 Warlord's Challenge

Before this challenge was decided I thought to pick up a 15mm scale harrier kit. No real reason for the purchase. I am still getting my head into 15mm scaling so the kit was for reference.

However I now think a crashed or abandoned Harrier would be a cool model. I am not a fan of high tech air power in a post apoc setting. They are notoriously difficult to maintain and drink fuel quicker than a Ruby Team in a free bar.

First up assembly of the Revel snap together kit. I found this fiddly as bits keep popping off. If I was keeping the jet stock I would use a little super glue to keep it together. As such I assembled it and I left the stores/weapons off because if they pinged off one more time the kit would have seen the underside of my size 11 boot!

There is a number of ideas in my head for this kit.

1. A jet during the wars suffers a malfunction or runs low on fuel and is forced to land. In which case some of the stores may still be fitted, although pilots would probably emergency jettison them before a forced/emergency landing.

2. A jet destroyed during the end. Maybe the blasts forced it out of control?

3. The jet was shot down during the wars.

The last two present the question of did the pilot jettison?  I have a few things to think about before work starts.

Thanks for looking, stay safe out there.

More Dark Future cars for my Blood & Fire setting.

I was mooching about Evilbay looking for some Mad Max cars and I stumbled on a auction of Dark Future cars. It was one of those lucky finds that I landed. So my forces of Fire and Blood have some new additions....

More Interceptors seeking fame & fortune in the wastelands.

These cars just need the Interceptor names adding to match the others in my collection. Some new weapons may be added too.

There was this Hotwheels Interceptor conversion.

There was a few Renegades in the batch too.

They all need a little touching up. Some new weapons may be nice too. Not too sure what gangs these vehicles will be added too.

In the auction there was some converted hotwheels cars.

This one will be added to Civilisation's Police Force.

There is a couple of gang cars too.

Not sure what gangs to use these for just yet.

The lot also had these useful bits. Lots of Dark Future weapons. Some conversion fun will be had soon.

In all a good haul.

Some New Bits!

Finally I got some bits and bobs done. My terrible twosome kittens are nearly 1 year old now and they leave me alone long enough to do some hobby stuff.

First up I ordered some Sci Fi prepainted prefabs from Pinnacle Games. The arrived flat packed and assembled quite quickly.

The tops come off so you can allow figures inside.

These are stackable so you can make a nice 15mm Sci Fi slum. I liked the Pinnacle models and I am hoping to add more to my collection in future.

Staying on the 15mm theme I picked up this Zevda Ural Truck.
I have a soft spot for the Ural truck. They would make great post apoc or frontier world work horses. The kit was snap fit and easy to assemble. The covered tarp comes off for cargo hauling.

As I am thinking about doing Post Apoc in 15mm I felt a Muscle Car to Mad Max would be in order. The problem is Hotwheels cars look to large to my eye. So I went looking around  the HO rail road lines and found a Mustang. The only trouble is HO scale cars cost a small fortune. More than a 1/24 diecast car.

Staying in the Post Apoc theme I picked up "When" by Matthew Thair. This is a book of Ink Post Apoc art and some poems.

There is some art work in here. Worth a look if you like or need some inspiration.

Check it out, I found mine on Ebay.

That's all for now. Take care out there!

Wasteland Wondering - Brittannia

Rule Brittannia, Brittannia rule the wastes.

Welcome back to another Wasteland Wondering. In this issue I will look back at an early creation in Mattblackgod's world. So early it was before this blog began and never really got featured. The forces of Brittannia Bunker City.

The bunker city forces started life as a Corporation force I had created for the Combat Zone game. The figures where bought off eBay around 2004 for buttons and combined cost less than the officer figure I got a couple of years back.

Power Armour was good enough for Fallout so Brittannia got some. The Power Armour figures are my old 40K RT Beakie Space Marines. It was good to give them a second life.

Not long after I decided to create a post apoc world inspired in part by the film Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone and 2000AD's Cursed Earth. Mattblackgod's world was born. I wanted to use my Combat Zone collection. After some thought I created the SOS bunkers which was inspired by the Redoubt bunkers of the Deathlands novels mixed with a bit of the Vaults from Fallout.

I had the bunker open up, then use its personal and equipment to dominate the wastelands around. As the faction wore colours inspired by the Colonial British army they became Brittannia Bunker City ruled by a elite class of Lords and Queen Miranda.

I ran the faction satiring the real world with a few fictional twists of my own such as Lord's Brown and Blair robbing the city and fleeing. The old game reports can be read on the Post Apoc Wargames Forum in the links below:

Later I created another faction in the Bunker City. The forces of Lord Blackdagger which are converted warzone imperial trenchers.

This force was largely inspired by the Blackadder Goes Forth tv series.

I grew bored of small high tech factions ruling the wastelands. So I had a orbital satellite malfunction and drop nukes on Brittannia and it's rival bunker city Aryanriche. Isn't playing god great?

I now lament the loss of the city. In the last couple of years or so the UK has provided a lot of inspiration for breakaway factions, mutant outbreaks (such as orange skinned mutants with strange thick eyebrows for instance) and possibly civil war (Brexit war?).  I had a lot of fun lampooning the real world in miniature it seems a shame to miss some great opportunities to do so again.

I could resurrect Brittannia...but what happened to the survivors of the Bunker City?

One group stayed near by the bunker city ruins and formed the town of Nu Albion. The place is a dystopia and has many troubles. There are mutants in the Nu Londioum ruins and rad ghouls in the bunker ruins to the east. To the west the Skrap Knights of King Arty and to the North the Fatal Floozies gang.

Skrap Knights of King Arty.

Another group of Brittannia headed across the sea to the Confedracy where they mingled into the townships and farms. Two groups headed north. One went into the Nukadonia mountains never to be heard from again. The other set up the town of Nu Calidonia on the borders of Pictiseland and has constant trouble with Pictise tribes men.

Blackdagger's company was deployed to a colony before the nukes and survived. They now have thrived in the wastelands.

When Utopia City began evacuation of the wastelands a few people from Nu Albion, Nu Calidonia and Blackdaggarland where "saved" and now live in Brittannia block within the megacity. It would seem that they are my best bet of restarting a Brittannia faction.

Living in the megacity isn't what the survivors of Brittannia expected. It is worse than life in the wastelands. I can see them aquiring the equipment, technology and supplies to return and reclaim their lands.

Now all I need to figure out is how and where?  The Blackdaggers are well equipped and will not bow to a new leader easily. The other two factions are weaker. Or maybe the new faction should look for another lost SOS bunker to set up home?

Thanks for looking.

2000AD's Cursed Earth

Hello and welcome back. One of my ambitions for 2017 is to get more blog posts up, so this is a good start.

Part of my Christmas haul was a copy of 2000AD's Judge Dredd, The Cursed Earth uncensored book.

This is from a Judge Dredd story 2000 AD ran back in 1978. In the story Mega City 2 is hit by a terrible virus. Mega city 1 has a vaccine but can not deliver it to Mega City 2 as the infected hold the cities airport. Judge Dredd volunteers to cross the 3000 miles of Cursed Earth to deliver the vaccine. Or as I like to think of it, Judge Dredd does route 66!

Reading this graphic novel/comic book took me back to being a child. It was 1979 and I had chicken pox. My Aunty left a pile of old comics belonging to a cousin for me to read. In there was a pile 2000ADs. The issues with this story line or most of it was in the comic pile.

Looking back it started my love for the 2000AD comic, my interest in Science Fiction/Fantasy genre and most importantly my love for the Post Apocalyptic Genre.

The Cursed Earth isn't just a hellish wasteland like those of Mad Max. It is filled with towns, ruins and wrecks. The art work in the graphic novel is enough to inspire the terrain builder.

The tales are typical 2000AD with some parodies of the modern world and a little bit of wackiness. It fits my style for Mattblackgod's World.

If you are stuck for ideas for gaming the post apocalyptic world then The Cursed Earth is worth a look. If you game Judge Dredd then this is a must. There are mutants, cultists, mutant beasts, bio engineered beasts, insane robots, aliens  (the 2000AD world made it to space before wasting the world), warbands and many more ideas to inspire. Ideas as such as the burger wars story may inspire similar warbands maybe with a more modern or localised slant.

In short, Judge Dredd The Cursed Earth is chock full of ideas and art inspiration for the post apocalyptic wargamer and modeller. It isn't for the gritty or modern setting but fits any sci fi one. It's well worth a look.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading. Take care out there!

Happy New Year 2017!

Happy New Year for 2017! I hope your hangovers are not too bad.

Phew, what a year 2016 was. We lost a lot of talent. I hope 2017 lays off our remaining talent and concentrates on people we don't need or want like Politicians or bankers.

I didn't get to look back at my hobby stuff for last year as there was too much going on. My hobby stuff concentrated mainly on 20mm post apoc cars and miniatures from various lines. Sadly my hobby ambitions tailed off thanks to the arrival of these two loons.

The tuxedo is called Toffee and the black one Dixie. They are brothers. They are a fair bit bigger than when this picture was taken and at 9 months are larger than our poor suffering 13 year old cat, Joey. These horrors are slowing down but are into everything still and want to play with everything. They devistated our Christmas Decorations. Two live wire kittens makes hobby time difficult.

Still one of my hobby ambitions for 2017 is to start hobbying again. I want to get my 28mm post apoc figures painted (there is a fair few of them), get my Ork/Trog mobs started and get my 15mm post apoc started. I also intend to get my wife to try a game or three.

I wish all my readers and their families a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2017!

Stay safe out there!
