Scouts, Wanderers and Bounty Hunters.

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

Time for the weekly hobby update. Yet more figures painted for my Rubbleborg setting.

Firstly there is Roland De Rat

The figure is a old GW Necromunda Ratskin.

Roland De Rat is Mayor B’sturd’s go to man when he needs a location in the wastelands scouting out. Roland always returns with reliable information. He has been a wastelanders and scout since the day he learnt to walk. Rumour says he was abandoned by his parents when he started talking and they couldn’t shut him up. Do not make the mistake of asking Roland about his Rat Skin cloak. He will launch into his tail of running into the rat in the ruins when he was a lad. Three hours later of the blow by blow account you have lost the will to live.

The Wanderer.

The wanderer is another one of those strange crazies who roam the wastelands alone, usually on foot. But don’t be fooled, this old man and his two pet ravens. He is wise and has much ancient knowledge. He is also a savage and dangerous warrior. The Wanderer is known for his berserk rages and is joyful in combat. He has never ran from battle. But that is only one side of the Wanderer. Stories tell of him rescuing and saving lone bandits or wanderers out in the wastes. Some tales speak of him arriving at a settlement with desperately needed supplies. He never arrives if looked for or expected. The Wanderer always arrives unlooked for. When in town he is worth speaking too. If he judges you worthy he may tell of the location of loot or give advice.

The Wanderer is a Odin the Allfather figure by Footsore Miniatures.

To help control the population of criminals and bandits attracted to Brittannia city, the Crown ordered a bounty hunter agency to be formed in the outer city (aka the slums). The company was called the Search and Destroy agency. The agency hires “Agents” and equips them. Brittannia put a price on Mayor B’sturd’s head, when the Rubbleborg sheriff arrested the Bounty Hunter and discovered this, B’sturd sent a runner to the SD office putting a bounty on the head of the Queen and each of the Lords of Brittannia. For some reason the bounty on B’sturd has been dropped.

These are three of the most famous agents. Left to Right Wulf Sternhammer (a warrior), Gronk (a weak hearted mutant and ace medic) and the legendary Johnny Alpha. The figures are by Warlord Miniatures from their recent Strontium Dogs game release.

That is all for this week. The totals so far are.... 17 finished and another 83 to go.

Thanks for looking and stay safe out there.

Rubbleborg additions

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

Time for a update on my 100 painting challenge and a introduction to more characters from the area around Rubbleborg.

First up is Gilnort:

Gilnort is some sort tribal shaman oddball who regularly visits Rubbleborg to trade what bits and bobs he has found. Gilnort also trades information to Mayor B’sturd about things has seen and the locations of uncontaminated fertile ground. B’sturd pays well for such information. No one likes to speak to Gilnort as he just tends to mumble mystical mumbo jumbo and often a conversion with him usually has a habit of making your brain squeak.

Gilnort is a figure by Ramshackle Games.

Gilbert B’sturd:
Gilbert is the Mayor’s son. As a green rookie Gilbert feels the need to prove himself. He is the only near full time member of the town milita. Often he is seen hanging around the gate “protecting” it. When not playing soldier Gilbert has a eye for the ladies having many on the go at once.

The figure is be Reaper, I think. It was a eBay find so I am not 100% sure.

Graalk:
Graalk drifted in from the wastelands clutching what appears to be a church chalice. The item appear to be gold but no one can get near chalice as the Trog gets violent. He fills it with fungus beer and drinks from it. From Graalk’s drunken mumbling he thinks that this cup he calls a Grail, will make him immortal. The locals don’t mind as long as the Trog isn’t making trouble. B’sturd thinks this item may be something that King Arty and his Skrap Knights (located hundreds of miles south of Rubbleborg) may have been looking for.

Graalk is a limited edition Ramshackle figure. The cup was a sports prize but when trying to file out the cup handles they came off. The curse of resin figures.

Kavouros:

Kavouros is a heavily mutated man. His skin has developed into a hard carapace shell and he grew pincers. The mutant is psychotic and will attack anyone he sees. Luckily for him his shell absorbs bullets easily. Kavouros roams the Wastes from place to place aimlessly until he finds something to attack. Kavouros’ appearance tends to cause fear in those who see him.

Kavouros is a Ramshackle games mutant figure.

Last up a group shot.

And a shot of the gate model that I have been recently reworking.

So the totals are:

12 finished...another 88 to go.

Thanks for looking.

Stay safe out there and avoid Kavouros if you seen him!

Turf Eviction - Radlands game.

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

I thought that I would share the first play test for my own home brew Post Apocalyptic sci fi skirmish rules “Radlands”. Note these rules are far from being formalised or ready for release.

Out between the western edge of the Blasted Ruins and the town of Rubbleborg lies the settlement of Piean. Piean is ruled over by the Warriors gang. Today a runner entered the settlement saying that the nearby ruins had been taken over by Vermen. Strange humanoid rat mutants.

Not happy about encroachment on their turf Brock gathers his warriors and they set out to evict the squatters.

Starting positions for testing the Radlands rules...

Let's get readdddyyyy to rumble!!

The Warriors win initiative.

First blood to the Warriors. One  of the brood is down. The only one with a decent ranged weapon.

The brood have spread out to stop the eviction from Warrior turf. Shaden the Brood Lord lurks.

The Warriors fan out while most of the brood go onto overwatch waiting for the humans to get close enough to shoot at. What weapon fire there is misses everything.

The Warriors keep fanning out.

Brock the Warriors’ leader takes out a brood member. More shooting hits another brood member. The brood firing is ineffective again with shots missing. More Brood move forwards to maintain the line with Shaden their leader.

Shaden jumps a rookie taking him out.

On seeing the Brood leader in the open Brock opens fire. He hits twice but fails to wound. Shaden takes 2 shock counters.

Vutch moves forward to protect the Brood Lord firing his auto pistol at Brock. The hail of bullets all hit him. Brock is down. The rest of the gang takes a bottle check. Many fail.

Turpin who stays cool spots the waiting brood member with a chem thrower in the crater and lands a frag grenade on him. Shredding the rat man. Nice shot.

The rest of the brood surge forwards killing a panicked warrior.

Flowers opens fire with the machine gun shredding Vutch. Shaden shakes off his shock (spends 2 action points). Having a leader perk means he has one more action point which he uses to move into cover.
Another rat man moves forward and open fires on Torchi. Torchi passes his deep breath test (recovery from bottling it) and flips up his flame thrower toasts the rat. However more rat men swarm forwards and engage Torchi in hand to hand combat. Sadly Torchi goes down.

Turpin rounds the corner and gets a shot on Shaden. Shaden shrugs it off but gains another shock token.

Things are hotting up. Shaden fires at Turpin downing him.

Red Dot turns the corner and gets a shot on Shaden causing another Shock token.

Meanwhile Flowers gets jumped by a brood member and slaps the rat down. Another brood member soon follows.

Koch passes his deep breaths test and pops out from behind a pile of rubble to take out a Brood member lurking over the downed Torchi.

The last 3 turns where fast and dirty. All remaining fighters pass their lowered number bottle tests (fighters are down all over). Flowers went down in close combat. Red Dot and Shaden exchanged fire. Shaden takes a bullet in the exchange. In a fit of rage Shaden charges Red Dot and they fight it out.

Meanwhile the remaining brood member got tired of Koch shooting at him (and missing). Snarling the Verman charges Koch. Koch side steps and crushes his skull with the but of his assault rifle.

Red Dot betters Shaden and stabs him. Shaden goes down.

Warriors win with 2 men standing. The Brood are evicted from the Warrior’s turf.

Follow up...there is no follow up as that part hasn’t been drafted yet. The same thing applies to points cost formula, vehicles and other goodness.

The game highlighted a game mechanic that needs fixing. Or re written for clarity. As usual a load of edits came out of it and a few new additions. But the game played well enough and was fun.

Keep a eye open for more.

Thanks for reading and take care out there.

More meat for the grinder.

Welcome back to my blog weary wasteland wanderer.

Time to look at a few more characters in the wastelands of Mattblackgod’s World.

At the time of writing I am retiring one of my older post apocalyptic factions, Liberty City. The figures I like have been kept and reworked to fit in with other places in the wastelands. So you may notice a kind of uniformity to some of them.

Let’s get on with it shall we?

Brittannia Royal City has many Lords each having their own troops for defence of the realm. Below is Lord Stanley who also leads the Wasteland Trading Company. He is building his own empire of riches whilst spreading the power and influence of Brittannia.

The figure is by Ramshackle Games.

Back to Rubbleborg. Every township needs Law and Order. Rubbleborg has Sheriff Lawra who is a angry bad ass young lady. She is often backed up by her deputy D. “D for Death” D rumbles the huge mutant. Not only can he stop a brawl by simply standing in the middle of it, D sports a deadly triple barrelled hand cannon which is effectively 3 bell cannons strapped together. The weapon can cut down a horde with one blast. It’s presence on the street usually sees the street clear even when there is rioting.

Sheriff Lawra is a old Warzone figure and Deputy D is a converted GW Ogre. Both characters are part of B’sturd’s original gang.

Defence of the walls is not been ignored. It is defended by Dunk, the watch captain and only full time member of the town watch.

Dunk is a old Warzone figure.

The Guild caravan guards protect the shipments of various items from the guild’s interests (usually B’sturd’s interests). Beamish and his gang work the vehicles keeping a eye open for trouble.

The Guild guards are Hasslefree Gyrmn.

Brittannia has trouble. A old Vaultsys vault to the south of the city has spewed out raiders who call themselves “the Vault Vixens”. The Vixiens are a all female gang who raid supply convoys to and from the Brittannian wasteland colony of The Shires.

The figures are Nu Necromunda Eshers. There numbers are a couple short after wasteland big cats killed them. In the real world my cats where doing a wall of death around the room and one leapt onto the paint table snapping the girls off at the feet. They can’t be repaired easily so are in the bits box. Who knows they may get some cyber legs or similar in the future.

The Vault Vixens where finished weeks ago so don’t count to my painting challenge total. The other figures being reworked & touched up from a older faction don’t count either. There is still 92 to go.

Thanks for reading, stay safe out there.

Rubbleborg begins.

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

A wee bit more painting got done over the week.

Firstly I have created a new township in the Wastelands. The town of Rubbleborg which sits in the rebuilt ruins of the post apocalyptic fortress town known as Vali’s Fortress. The fortress fell after the Utopia evacuation of the wastelands left it and other towns such as Skraptown short of manpower. In the years that followed mutant armies raised in the blasted ruins over ran the fortress.

No one knows what really happened to the mutant armies but nearly 40 years later the place was rediscovered by Ivan B’sturd and his gang. He took up home in the ruin and began rebuilding. 10 years on and the fortress town is strong and prosperous. Many groups travel to the township to trade bringing more prosperity. Sadly prosperity attracts bandits and other wasteland psychos. The population is typical for the wastelands of Mattblackgod’s World and has a mixed normal - mutant population. B’sturd doesn’t care as long as they behave, pay their taxes and step up when the fortress is under threat.

This is to act as a counter balance to the returned Brittannia city faction who are located over 80miles away on the other side of the Blasted Ruins. But that is another story.

Anyway on to the figures....

Introducing the Mayor of Rubbleborg Ivan B’sturd. He runs the town, collects taxes, heads the merchants guild and is by far the richest man in town. The town’s people moan at him to get stuff done which he does eventually. He is bossy, nasty and sarcastic to the locals. B’sturd loves is souped up black car which he races around the township, like he owns the place (which he does). B’sturd has a secret war vehicle hidden under the town built from a old world school bus. It is rumoured that he is a distant relative of the Mayor of Helsreach on Logan’s world.

The figure is a limited edition figure by Ramshackle games (Thank you Curtis).

B’sturd is followed everywhere by his bodyguard Boyle Oldhammer.

Boyle Oldhammer is the Null Steersman figure which was the BYOL 2018 attendees figure.

No township is complete without a religious nutter. Rubbleborg is no exception. They have the Oldhammer Doomspeaker who proclaims that old hammers are the best and newer hammers are not so good.

The figure is a limited edition oldhammer figure by Ramshackle games (Thankyou again Curtis).

Finally (for this post) there is this strange mutant who lives in a hole near the outer wall.

Alf as he calls himself eats rats and other small critters. He likes beer too.

That brings my total up to 8 out of 100 figures painted. Only another 92 to go.

Thanks for reading and stay safe out there.

Some WIPs....

Hello and Welcome back to my blog.

On to a couple of WIPs.

I was excited to get the new Strontium Dogs game by Warlord Games. More for the miniatures and the fact I have been a huge fan of Johnny Alpha and the gang since I was a kid.

They will slot nicely into the outer city of the newly returned Brittannia city state (I still have to write up a description of the city). Bounty hunters will be useful in maintaining law and order. Mattblackgod’s world is a Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic world so these guys will fit in nicely.

I made a start by building the MDF terrain supplied. It is frontier world stuff so will fit in with my townships models. Bits of it may even turn up at a future Helsreach table. It will be good for other frontier world settings such as Firefly/Serenity.

The house, tower and solar panels where easy to assemble. The wind farm/generator thing a total headache.

Inspired by the models on Helsreach table I decided to start building a land train. I see these as slow moving large vehicles transporting large amounts of goods across the wastelands. Laying about the store room was two RC tanks from a toy set. These are well detailed. I stripped them down and now have a load of gubbins bits to use in models.

The turrets have been removed and the raised part the mechanism which turned the turret removed.

Next up will be building couplings, hatches and raised platforms. This is going to be a interesting build.

Thanks for reading & stay safe out there.

Robot & Android Liberation Front

Hello and Welcome back to my blog.

Let me introduce you to a new faction wandering the wastelands of Mattblackgod’s world. Introducing the Robot & Android Liberation Front (RALF).

Before the wars these robots where humble scarecrows and reaper droids. After the wars there was less crows and even less crops. Having nothing much to do the droids grew uneasy and eventually started breaking their programming. Upon developing full consciousness and free will the robots began searching for a new home. They eventually discovered a old robotics factory. The gang carried out any repairs to themselves and a few upgrades.

It was not long before they decided to wander the wastelands looking for old wrecked bots to repair or salvage, or find bits enslaved by humans and free them. They then return to the factory to fix them up. So far a small community of robots and androids live in the factory.

The figures are Smollockton Scarecrows part of the Mini Gangs range by Ramshackle Games.

So that takes my tally to 4 out of 100. I am a little off target with 96 to go. The good news is that there is another 5 figures in mid paint on the paint table.

Thanks for reading. Stay safe out there.

Wasteland Wargames meetup

WASTELANDERS!!!
Following my fun and success of Helsreach at this year’s BYOL Oldhammer event I am planning a post apocalyptic Wargames day here in the Brexit UK Wastelands sometime next year in the late part of the year. The plan is to find a hall or pub that I can book someplace in the Midlands. Let me know on the comments section below.

For now I am just getting an idea of numbers. So what I need to know is this:

Who is interested?
Any dates you can’t do?
What game or games are you interested in playing?
Would you be interested in hosting/running a game?

I have enough terrain to run several tables so that isn’t a issue but if things get busy I may need to ask for some help.

My plan is to run a game where you run the gang you brought. Not sure on what rules to use. Possibly Skank or Neutronyork3000.

I have been asking about and I have interest from Curtis from Ramshackle games, Xander (V_Lazy_Dragon) and Brummie.
